Originating from the state of Punjab, Bhangra is an intense and exciting folk dance traditionally danced by farmers during the harvest. It has grown in popularity to be celebrated internationally, with dancers of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds learning and competing. Founded in 1991, MIT Bhangra is the oldest collegiate bhangra team in the country, and has been dedicated to sharing its love of the dance since its inception.
Consisting of members from the MIT and greater Boston community, MIT Bhangra often hosts workshops for the Boston community, dances at MIT-affiliated dance performances and gigs, and competes all around the country. In addition, the team hosts extensive summer workshops, offers costume rentals, and can be booked for private performances.
